Treatment success will be more likely when the patient understands his/her condition and is a vibrant respected partner of the physician

Make the patient the expert
  • In depth understanding of the illness and knowledge increase on the patient side is the basis for compliance and a well-functioning relationship to the physician

  • My ultimate goal is to educate the patient and make him / her
an expert of the medical condition

  • Full respect for the patient’s unique culture and appreciation for the individual’s level of education & academic background is key for me

  • We will provide access to learning material including books, brochures, web-based information, podcasts, blogs, advocacy groups

  • One illustrative example is a book I published,  an easy to read guide for people with epilepsy trying to help them to better navigate in the jungle of treatment options  (see illustration on the upper right).

  • I have also written a children's book to support parents with epilepsy who want to explain epilepsy to their children and create trust around and otherwise scary situation (see illustration on the lower right).
